About
Hi there! I’m Shelley Ann Jackson, an illustrator, author and arts educator. I work primarily in children’s picture books. My first picture book, Little Lions, Bull Baiters & Hunting Hounds: A History of Dog Breeds was awarded the 2008 gold medal in juvenile non-fiction by ForeWord Magazine and received a non-fiction research grant from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. My second book, Upon Secrecy, was selected as one of the best children’s books of 2010 by Bank Street College of Education and nominated for a 2012 Beacon of Freedom Award. Harness Horses, Bucking Broncos & Pit Ponies: A History of Horse Breeds was released October 2011!
In my private life, I am a mommy, a yogini, an animal lover and a baked goods connoisseur. But only sometimes simultaneously. I live with my family in Austin, Texas.
thank you both so much for the great book which I really enjoyed very very much.
only one thing i might point out was that illustration for GuoXia section looks more like Japanese ladies than Chinese.
hope that could be corrected for the next edition/printing.
have a healthy happy and more productive 2012!
All the power to you…

Thank you for the comment! I can assure you that we researched all of the details in both the text and the art thoroughly and used reference for figures and costume. Are you referring to the nationality of the women, their outfits, or some other aspect of the illustration?
